Deceased Sisters

Caterina Atzori - Italy
31/07/1936 - 14/07/2019

Sister Caterina was born in Selegas, in the province of Cagliari, on July 31, 1936, the first of nine children born to Maggiorino Atzori and Teodosia Moi. From a young age she had to work hard to help her mother look after their large family.

Still very young, she went to Rome in search of work to support the family. During this time in Rome, she met the Marist Fathers and the Marist Sisters who encouraged her to respond to the call to consecrated life. After a few years’ stay in the city of Rome, she left around May 1961 to start her Marist formation in France at Saint Foy in Lyon, where she made her first profession on 24.03.1963.

Later she returned to Italy to minister as cook in the General House in Anzio.

In Italy, she had the opportunity to live in the various communities, carrying out various tasks as a cook, a superior, a community bursar and an assistant in the Infants’ School in the Parish of Monigo.

During her life as a Marist religious in all the places where he lived, her goodness and simplicity always emerged. The people of the Parish communities still remember her for her availability and attention to the needs of others.

Another aspect of Sr Caterina's life is that she spent much of her free time in prayer.

During her life she did not have extraordinary tasks, but she lived a simple ordinary life that left a beautiful memory in the places where she lived.

Sr Caterina spent the last five years of her life in a residential facility at Pancalieri (Turin), lovingly assisted by all the staff. The Poor Sisters Daughters of St. Gaetano who run this Retirement Home have always been very close and attentive to our every request.

Her brother, who lives not far from Pancalieri, visited her regularly. A few days before her death she had the joy of receiving the visit of four other brothers from whom she had not heard for a long time.

On July 17, 2019 at 10.00 in the little church of the Institute of Pancalieri (Turin) Sr Caterina’s funeral was celebrated, with the participation of some family members, the Marist Sisters of Collegno and some of Treviso, the Marist Brothers, many residents from the Nursing Home and all the Sisters of that Community.

Her body immediately after the ceremony was taken to Treviso to be buried in the cemetery of Ponzano Veneto (TV), where other Marist Sisters rest.

We thank Sr Caterina for her life lived in simplicity and abandonment to the will of God, her memory will always be present in our hearts.

Rest in peace.
