 What a Blessing!

On New Year's Eve, two of us were present in St Peter's Square as Pope Francis celebrated Vespers and Benediction inside the basilica. We prayed along with him, watching the screens, and listening - as best we could - to the mixture of Italian and Latin. The singing was beautiful! At the moment of blessing we held in our hearts all our Sisters across the world. So you were each there!

Afterwards Francis came outside and walked along the barricades, greeting people, to the crib where he prayed. To our disappointment, we had just been moved from our ideal position and found ourselves behind taller people. However, once more Francis walked along the barricades, this time in our direction. Suddenly, it was as if a window opened and there he was smiling in front of us, laughing and joking with a woman in the front row. What a blessing for the New Year!

We were so touched by the whole event and particularly by the generosity of our 80 year-old pontiff in walking all the way along the barricades and by his joy as he did so!
