Sydney – ‘Fourviere Camino’
On Sunday 21 July, members of the Marist family gathered to celebrated the anniversary of the Fourvière pledge. The format of the day took the form of a “camino”. People were invited to enter at any stage of the journey.
The day began in a park under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. After acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land on which we would travel throughout the day.
As we set of on the ‘camino’ we were mindful of those who had climbed the steps to Fourvière over 200 years ago.
The first stage began with the group climbing the steps to the walkway and crossing the Sydney Harbour and heading to our first destination – St Patrick’s Church Hill. The Marist Fathers have had care of this parish for over 150 years.
At Church Hill the pilgrims enjoyed the hospitality provided by the St Patrick’s Church Hill Parish, Marist Fathers and prepared by Sr Fidelis sm
Andrew Dumas, Lay Marist shared a reflection on the significance of Fourvière pausing to allow those present to reflect on what they had heard and to share with others.
It was soon time to be transported by bus for the third session in the parish hall at Hunters Hill. Hunters Hill is another important place for Marists in Australia as it has played a significant part in the story of the various branches.
Again we were joined by more members of the Marist Family. Our celebrations continued with prayer, song, reflecting and sharing before responding by standing and reading an adaptation of the Fourvière Pledge.
