Jeanne-Marie Chavoin

OUR FOUNDERS

Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, Foundress of the Marist Sisters, was born in Coutourve on 29th August 1786, lived with her family for 30 years, had many natural gifts, a great sensitivity towards others, a love of work and a “hidden holiness”.

At the age of 31, she received a letter from Father Pierre Colin, Jean-Claude Colin’s brother, inviting her to Cerdon to collaborate in the Marist project.

She knew immediately that this was the place where God was calling her.

With her friend Marie Jotillon she left for Cerdon. And she contributed actively to the realization of the Marist project.
