WOMEN AT THE WELL MINISTRY
No one should have to live in fear.
We all
have a right to feel safe from all forms of
abuse in our lives in own homes and families
I am Sr Mariana Tevurega, a coordinator for Women Ministry in the Archdiocese of Suva. The Women at the Well Ministry is one of the program from my department that I look after. The ministry was born as a Catholic Church response to domestic violence and sexual abuse. In the ministry we have women and men who were trained to listen to the survivors stories. The concept of accompaniment is used as our method of heart listening to our vulnerable women and anyone else who is affected and who come to our space. We do not solve their problems.
Method used for listening to their stories
- Creating a safe space environment with the prayerful atmosphere, ensuring the survivor / victim is safe.
- The accompanier listens attentively without unnecessary questions or been judgemental.
- As a trusted friend affirm them and ask a question if she/he likes to seek professional help with you assisting them.
- With your accompaniment further referral for special needs.
