Foundation Day Celebrations in Fiji
The Sisters from the Unit of Fiji gathered in Nadi to celebrate 133 years since the foundation of the Marist Sisters in Fiji. During the celebration, the participants were invited to walk down “memory lane” and relive the day the pioneer community of Mother Melanie; Sr Sebastian and Sr Martha arrived on the shores.

They arrived in Levuka on March 28, 1892…
recalled Sr Kalala as she told the story of the arrival of the Marist Sisters in Fiji.
As the history of our presence unfolded sisters shared a memory of the Marist Sisters in their home village – Sisters Filomena Ruru (Levuka), Mariana Tevurega (Ba), Marlene Giblin (Lautoka), Mariana Maramanicava (Namosi); Salome Dilagi (Solevu); Lora Adikakai (Yasawa), Torika Wong and Monica Saverio (Nadi) and Kalala Kiutau (Tonga). Unfortunately Rosemary Simon wasn’t present to share her memory of the Sisters in Lami.
