Bishop Treanor joined the priests and parishioners of St Peter’s Cathedral to celebrate the Mass of Thanksgiving for the Marist Sisters. The Sisters are leaving Belfast, where they have ministered since 1986. The first Sisters moved into the parish and lived in the flats in Divis Tower at the height of the troubles in the area.
During their time in Belfast, the Sisters had been involved in many pastoral activities in the parish, developed many community and inter-church projects and took on the management of a hostel in Grosvenor Road.
Fr Martin Graham, Administrator said in his homily.
“The Sisters have embodied the mission statement to welcome others and to see others as God’s children. They have reached out with care, with strength and determination, they have reached out because of their goodness and Godliness.”
In Thanksgiving for this very fruitful Ministry in Belfast and to welcome Sr Augusta to Tubbercurry, Georgina to Carrick on Shannon and Elsie to Charlestown a beautiful Community Liturgy was prepared by Srs Francis and Margaret praying for all who ministered in Belfast and remembering the Sisters who are now gone to their eternal reward.
