Brazil

The mission of our sisters in Brazil is comprised of internal and external ministries, such as administration, leadership and formation, together with various levels of pastoral work in the barrios and professional work in the schools, colleges and social centres.

In Tupi, Belo Herozonte, we have our Sector House where most of the administrative work is accomplished by the Leader and the Economa of the Sector. It is a Formation community where young women from the Region of Atlantica aspiring to be M;arist Sisters receive their initial formation. The young people work with the people in the Parish, with the homeless, with the people struggling with addiction, with the women on the margin of society, with the Basic Communities and in vocation ministry.

The Community in San Genaro:

Sister Solange is the Directress of Novices

Here the principal mission is the preparation of young people to live as Marist Sisters, it is the Novitiate House. The community also works in the Parish helping the poor people, forming the young people, the children and working with the women on the margin of society. They are also involved in the schools and colleges as professionals and in care homes for the elderly. Another aspect of their ministry is in the area of health introducing the people to alternative medicine etc.

Community in Caruaru:

The sisters live in a centre for Popular Education called Maria Madre de la Misericórdia (Mary Mother of Mercy) where they are involved in various social ministries and where they are a living presence of Mary for the poor and needy.

They also render some service in the parish of Saint Paul Apostle and in the Diocese. One sister accompanies the people in the prison and they are also involved in formal education in the schools.

Their presence there dates back for 13 years working lovingly with the poor and building the community from rock bottom thus achieving what it is today , a lifegiving community.

Community in Ji- Paraná – RO

This is a very interesting mission where the sisters work in a centre iniciated by the Marist Sisters called la Casa de Nazaré, (The house of Nazareth) They are engaged in social work with young people and with adults. They also serve in the Parish Our Lady of Fatima, and work with the Indigenous People in their barrio. They animate the Youth ministry and are involved in the Basic Communities. On a profession level they work in the schools.

We continue to pray that God will bless this Unit of Brazil with Marist vocations thus enabling the Church in her ministry to the poor and the needy.
