Coming to the Aid of Cyclone Victims in Fiji

When Cyclone Winston struck the islands of Fiji last March, Archbishop of Suva Peter Loy Chong was quick to get his flock mobilised. From the outset our Sisters joined others in offering practical help and emotional support to those worst affected. Sr Mariana, as Director of the Commission of Justice and Development, was sent by the Archbishop to the badly damaged island of Koro. She was part of a team who spent a week offering support to the traumatised and organising relief aid. The pictures tell the story...

A Young Marist Sister Prays for The Gambia

Our mission country the Gambia has been declared an Islamic State. Following this statement many are wondering about the future of Christianity in this country. On Saturday, 05 March 2016, all Christians: Catholics and non-Catholics gathered at the "Independence stadium", with a common intention: PEACE and UNITY in GAMBIA.

The leaders of the Gambian Christian Council (Roman Catholic, Anglican and Methodist) invited their faithful Christians to answer massively to this appeal. The faithful Christians entrusted their dear homeland to the Creative God, Only King, through prayers, praises, meditations on biblical verses and thanksgiving.

All together as one body, they implore the God's protection and care on The Gambia. The Assembly of God let ring the following words: peace, unity, justice, truth, wisdom, love, courage etc.…

Harmony between Christians and Muslims exists in The Gambia and the people continue to live respecting each other. May God’s abundant graces come down in The Gambia and on generations to come!

Marist Response to Laudato Si

We Marists (four General Councils), representing the one Tree with its several branches, gathered from 14 -16 January this year to study the encyclical Laudato Sí with a view to discerning how we might respond to Pope Francis’ compelling words.

As each session about our Common Home unfolded, we became more aware of our common heritage as Marists. In the spirit of the Fourvière Bicentenary, we were led to reclaim the motto: All for the greater Glory of God and the honour of Mary. Other words which echoed again and again included: inter-connectedness, conversion, contemplation, collaboration, communion and deep gratitude. At the end of our gathering, we had a sense of being called as a Marist Body to give flesh to the common values expressed in various ways in our Charism and in Laudato Sí.

Mercy and faithfulness have met, justice and peace have embraced. Psalm 85

 In our Marist Charism

...be always humble…
love work and the hidden life.
Simplicity, the very greatest simplicity,
should be your only ornament...
A Marist Sister’s sole desire should be
to resemble the little family at Nazareth
—there she will find the perfect models of
poverty, simplicity and love.
Mother St Joseph (foundress) RMJ 108,2

Mary’s presence today

Awake to new possibilities

Responding in love

Inspired by the Gospel

Sisters, simply sharing life and gifts

Tending and caring, protecting and nurturing!

... Creation can only be understood as a gift
from the outstretched hand of the Father of all,
and as a reality illuminated by the love
which calls us together into universal communion.
Laudato Si, 76
