A Big Weekend in Eastpointe, Michigan

60 years of the presence of the Marist Sisters and
50 years of religious profession for Sr Linda Sevcik

Anne McCabe was with our Sisters as the Parish of Holy Innocents/St Barnabas celebrated these two milestones.

She writes:

The Eucharist was just beautiful..... attended by Linda’s family, Holy Innocent/St Barnabas parishioners and dear friends, a great contingent from Chicago, teachers from St Albert’s  and various schools along the way, past pupils, priest friends, Marist Fathers - Joe Hindelang and Ron Nikodem and Brother Louis Plourde ( of the Marist Fathers' branch) and, of course, all our Sisters, except Christina, still in Shorepoint Nursing Home, who was very much with us in spirit and prayer.

Anne goes on to describe particular features of the celebration:
  • Fr John's magnificent homily in which he captured the real essence and spirit of the Sisters who have been part of the St Barnabas/ Holy Innocents Parish Community... remembering Sisters Rita Riddell and Mari Aranda .... and also mentioning by name every country where the sisters are present today sharing that same mission and spirit.
  • The music, a combination of musicians from the parish and from Chicago, was amazing.
  • Sr Con’s history of the Sisters' presence in the parish (Read full text here)
  • Linda's sharing of her beautiful embroidery of butterflies, a work in progress, symbolising her own - and our - unfolding journey.
  • Meeting a number of women who had been Marist Sisters earlier in life and then their paths took a different turn - each expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for the Sisters, for all they had learned and shared together. Each one has a Marist heart.... it never diminishes!

Anne concludes:

And so we give thanks, with Linda and each sister here in Detroit
for all they have been and are to the community here in Detroit!
And we give thanks, too, for all these beautiful people
who form part of their tapestry of life!

Photos tell the story - note the lovely flowers around Mary's statue - planted by Sr Frances
