Week 7: “I am a woman, a child of God and of the Universe”

This is our 7^th week of preparation and the Spirit has taken us to discover more deeply about Religious Life Today and Discernment and Inner Freedom; with these come both challenges and joys.

We started the week with Grace on Religious Life Today and we were reminded again of our identity. I am a woman, special, unique and I have my own limitations. We are not only connected to the earth but to the galaxies. It has deepened our views and understanding of our mission today as Marist Religious Women. To be a Religious, my identity is at the heart of prayer, where I meet God and offer Him my heart’s desires.

As a Religious today, I need to know what’s happening around the world and to understand the creation of God, not only my little “world” in which I minister. I am connected to the world through my prayers when I know what’s happening in the world.

On Discernment and Inner Freedom we were guided by Fr Rigobert Kyungu a Jesuit priest. We were introduced to Spiritual discernment and the rules of St Ignatius Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises. It has brought us to that deeper knowledge and understanding about discernment especially through this journey of preparation to final vows.

On Friday night we joined a group of volunteers linked with the Salesian Fathers and Sisters of John Bosco. This group distributes food to the homeless in the streets in one of the busiest parts of Rome. The street people are from different countries and some are from Italy. Most of them came to Rome in search of a better life but they have ended up on the streets because they can’t find work or because they don’t have any official documents.

As we engage in our different activities, we are conscious of the Synod on Youth taking place at the Vatican. With Pope Francis and all the participants we pray our Church will become a home for the young.
