What a privilege to be at our places of origin!!!
Our pilgrimage to the Marist sources continues. On September 8th, the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, we discovered the new Jean Claude Colin museum. The visit of this space allowed us to rediscover the history of the Marist family with all the people and events that contributed to its existence in the context of the French Revolution. The next day a few of us went to a festival in St Symphorien, where we saw life in medieval times.
We called September 10th "Champagnat day". We visited Marlhes and the hamlet of Marcellin Champagnat's native village, Le Rosey. Later, we visited La Valla where Marcellin started to live community life with his brothers. Our "Champagnat day" ended with the very moving experience of the Hermitage where we witnessed the creativity, determination, tenacity, and courage of Marcellin Champagnat, qualities also necessary for our own vocation. "If the Lord does not build the House...” PS 126).
The Society of Mary needs the commitment of all of its members, as well as the blessing and support of God. Teach us, Lord to put you in the centre of the mission we received following in the footsteps of our first Marists.
On September 12th, together with all branches of the Society of Mary, we celebrated the Holy Name of Mary, our Mother. at Fourvière. We had the honour of leading the singing for the Mass. We entrusted our “Yes” to Mary by placing on the altar a rosary that each of us had made. Following Mass and a visit of the crypt we went to the Rue Sala community to continue the celebration and to share with our sisters from Toulon, Bon Repos and Rue Sala. After this wonderful time with our sisters, we set out for Belley (Bon Repos), which is one of the important stages in the development of the Society of Mary.
