Working for Vocations

From 9-13 April a Vocation Convention and Jamboree took place in Ozamiz, Philippines, a few hours away from Davao. The Marist Sisters were represented by Sr Sheila Manalo. Sheila joined religious from many other congregations to share something of religious life today.

Sheila writes:

It was an opportune time for us to gather this 2018 Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons to update ourselves in the many realities of our pastoral work for vocations. The 109 delegates were housed at foster homes. We were welcomed with a sumptuous dinner sponsored by the local government. Each morning we began with a holy hour and ended the day with the celebration of Holy Eucharist. A very special experience was the personal sharing of vocation stories. The Comission on Youth facilitated the talk and workshops. These provided a very enriching update and encounter with the Youth of today who are asking "Take time to listen to us". The Church plays an important role in their formation, taking up the challenge to support them in recognising Jesus in their lives and to guide in discerning the call to priestly and religious life.

The photos give some idea of the diversity of participants - and the last photo shows some of them experiencing an outreach activity run by the Columban missionaries.
