180 years since the death of one of our two founding women
Yes, there were two! Marie Jotillon accompanied Jeanne-Marie Chavoin for eleven years in her search for God's will and later in all that led to the establishment of the first community of Marist Sisters in Cerdon, France. When Marie died on 25 February 1838 at the age of 47, Jeanne-Marie was unable to hide her grief. An eye-witness wrote:
“… our Mother gave vent to her deep sorrow: ‘Half of myself is leaving the community today.’
To bear this heavy cross she had need of all her courage and her great conformity to the will of God.” (RMJ 241, 97)
May these two valiant women accompany us in our journey today and help us to have but 'one heart and one soul'.
