World Day of Peace in Rome

Anne represented us at the Peace March to begin the New Year. She met up with our RNDM friends at Largo Giovanni XXIII.... She writes:

There we heard the story of a young refugee from Iraq who, as a child growing up knew nothing but war and planes flying overhead. His journey - difficult in the extreme - took him to various countries, latterly hiding beneath a lorry. At the Sant’Egidio community, Rome, he has found peace, acceptance of diversity, respect and love... he has ‘come home’. He reminded us that war respects no one, rich or poor, old or young, male or female, black or white. War is the mother of poverty, mistrust, fear, hatred and death. It was humbling to listen to a young woman, too, who spoke of the desire of the young to make a difference for the good TOGETHER. From here we processed to St Peter’s Square for the Angelus. It might have been raining... but what a sense of community and HOPE.

We pray for peace of heart, peace in our homes, schools, neighbourhood and countries.
We pray for peace in our time.
