On the Feast of the Epiphany the Sisters from West Africa welcomed us with a ritual pouring of water on the ground.  We then processed into our meeting space to the beating of drums.  They shared their African cultures through the story of their clothing, song and dance!  Following this welcome we gathered in prayer joining the wise men in following the star and searching for the child!

 

In the afternoon we donned blouses specially made for our gathering and set out for the Opening Mass at the Church at Cours Ste Marie. The Archbishop and several Marist Fathers presided.  The SMSM, religious from other congregations, parishioners and friends of the Sisters joined us.  The music was uplifting and inspiring.  Again many aspects of African culture were evident...including a procession and dance to welcome the Word and presentation of gifts.  

 

After a day of celebrating we began our second day in prayer. Each Sister present inscribed her name on the Star in our prayer focus. We were conscious of Sisters who were unable to join us, in particular, Mareta of Fiji who has gone to the Lord!  

 

We are very grateful for the prayers and good wishes from Sisters around the world.  Every three or four days the communications team will prepare a news sheet as a way of sharing with you some of the fruits of our time together.
