Manchester Young People have Big Hearts

Silvia reports on her ministry as Chaplain at St Anne’s Catholic High School in Stockport, Manchester.

Silvia loves working among young people with big hearts. During Advent the pupils from St Anne's raised more than £800 and more than 20 boxes of food in reponse to an appeal for a Collyhurst foodbank which featured in a BBC series. It is the work of the Lalley Centre; a local social project in Manchester. Pupils, staff and parents all supported the appeal. Some made homemade hampers full of goodies and gifts. One of the students from year eight said: “Going to the Lalley Centre and helping out was amazing. Some people have so little, and don’t always get what they want; we need to learn how to share.”

Another occasion which touched Silvia was when St. Anne's High school received from the Parish St. Joseph in Reddish (Stockport) the gift of a statue of Our Lady. As they welcomed the image in the School,  the students were encouraged to share some reflections about Mary. They responded to the following question:
Why do you pray to Mary? Because she is.... One of the photos shows their answers - interesting thoughts and reflections from the young people which Silvia wanted to share...

Thanks for your sharing, Silvia! We thank God for your presence among the students of St Anne's and for their contribution to the goodness in our world - may it continue to flourish through 2017.
