Compassion Awards Ceremony 2023
Each year, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital organises a Compassionate Care Awards ceremony. In April 2023, more than 100 winners were nominated by their colleagues for the compassion they show not only to their patients and families, but also to their colleagues on a daily basis.
Dolores Heery, Mission Director, invited Sr Mary Duffy and three other staff members to give a personal testimony about the compassion they did or did not show in their time of need.
Mary spoke of compassion in the face of using rash language when a friend of hers was dying.
Martina spoke of the compassion that catering staff show every day, when they are sometimes the forgotten appointments.
Sean spoke about compassion, both from the perspective of a colleague and a service user on his ward in hospital.
David Beggs, Chairman of the Mater Hospital Board, gave the opening address, while Professor Jim Egan closed the awards ceremony.
Compassion is a gift that we should appreciate and share.
