Sister Silvia writes from Lisbon, Aug 01, 2023
Tens of thousands of pilgrims flocked to Colina do Encontro (Parque Eduardo VII), for the Opening Mass for WYD Lisbon 2023. Pilgrims from all over the world gathered for the first time to share their faith journey.
The Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, D. Manuel Clemente, presided over the celebration. He centered his homily around this year's theme, "Mary arose and went with haste".
One of the high points was the Choir which integrated of singers from hearing and non-listening choirs. The 'Mãos que falam' project (Hands that Talk) is composed of deaf people, who interpret the music not with their voices, but using Portuguese Sign Language.
At the celebration, the participants prayed "for peace in the world and for the end of wars", I invite them to live the "fraternal community".
The young people prayed that WYD Lisbon 2023, will be a "moment of encounter with Christ as young people, strengthening fraternity with those on the edges.”
During WYD Lisbon 2023, the Eduardo VII Park space has the designation of 'Hill of Encounter', as is the tradition of the World Youth Days
In communion with all Marist Sisters here in Lisbon 2023.
