INTO THE DEEP - BELIEVE
More than 200 young people (aged 20 and over) gathered at Colégio Marista de Carcavelos for the International Gathering of Marist Youth, which has taken place since 2008 in the days leading up to WYD. Participants come from all over the world.
Our Sisters are represented by Sr Sylvette Mané (Superior General), Silvia Sanz de Diego (General Team), Mariana Ndecky (West Africa) and Regina de Oliveira Cohene (Brazil).
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony of the event took place on the evening of 26 July. Two large fishing nets were set up and each participant was given a cut-out paper fish with our name on it. These names were placed on the nets according to the continents.
This was a simple introduction to the theme "Into the deep"; Jesus told his disciples to go into the deep and when they did, they made a huge catch.
BELIEVE
The first day (27 July) was animated by the Marist Brothers. The theme of the day was BELIEVE.
Throughout the day, the Marist Brothers really helped us enter into the theme through various power point presentations:
*Always remember that we are not walking alone, the Lord is walking with us.
*God always turns bad things into good.
*To have an experience with God, we need to be connected.
A group of young people illustrated the theme with a short drama and song:
Into the deep... into the deep, we are four branches living together.
