A New Dawn has begun for the Marist Sisters!

On the 15th August in the Via Aurelia Chapel, Sisters Sylvette, Kate, Mari and Silvia officially began their mandate as our General Team with a Eucharistic Celebration in honour of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Fr Peter Foley OMI presided and Srs Maryanne and Vivienne participated.

The simple but meaningful liturgy began with the song, “Crossing Thresholds”, composed by Sr Mariana NDecky.

In his opening words, Fr Peter reminded us that the whole Congregation was united with us in this significant moment. A Shared Introduction followed, drawing upon our 2022 Chapter Document. We recalled our gathering around Mary with the Spirit in our midst, Jean-Claude Colin’s vision to begin a “new Church” and Pope Francis’ encouragement to become Bearers of Hope.

Each team member held the Candle in turn and

proclaimed the words based on Isaiah 42:16 – “I will take the hand of those who don’t kno

w the way…” Then Sylvette, Kate, Mari and Silvia proclaimed their readiness to stand with Mary in the four calls of our Chapter, carrying symbols of the Marian Church, Laudato Si’, Interculturality and Formation.

Following the Readings in Spanish and French, the Gospel of the Visitation was proclaimed in English and completed with a beautiful rendition of the Magnificat – Rory Cooney’s “To My Surprise”. Fr Peter reflected on the place of the Holy Spirit throughout Mary's life and, particularly, as she began her mission in the Annunciation and Visitation events, making the connection with this moment for our Congregation.

After Communion we sang the chorus of

“A Presence of Mary” by Monica Brown and

concluded with the Taizé Magnificat.
