Day for Elimination of Violence against Women (Mexico)

The Marist Brothers' Children's and Youth Centre, where Sr Marta Chica is the director celebrated International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women  on 25 November.

There were activities to raise awareness about gender violence, which ended with a "march of silence".  The students of the centre wore black masks and carried banners with posters on the subject.  The march was a sign of protest for the millions of women who suffer violence in the world.  According to UN figures one in three has suffered violence.   The march took place around the streets of the school and afterwards the banners were pasted on the walls of the school.  In addition, the day before, a workshop was held on the prevention of child sexual abuse, so that girls and adolescents can make use of their right to participate, denounce situations of abuse and empower themselves.
