24/10/2021 - Australia
October 2021 marked a very important point in the Australian Catholic Church. Delayed by a year due to Covid 19, the 5th Plenary Council has begun 84 years after the 4th Plenary Council.
Due to Covid19 pandemic there were still restrictions, thankfully technology enabled the 280 members of the Council to ‘assemble’ and so discern responses to the 16 questions on the agenda. These questions were compiled from over 17,000 submissions, responses to the initial question: “What is the spirit asking of us in Australia today?” The questions were grouped under six headings – conversion, prayer, formation, structures, governance, and institutions.
Some of the Sisters followed event by watching the Masses and Open Sessions and Summary Discussions of the Plenary Council which were shared via the internet for anyone who was interested. We continue to pray earnestly for the outcome of the council; as Fr. Colin might say,” that we become a more Marian Church.”
