NEW ZEALAND PRIME MINISTER JACINDA ARDERN  VISITS MARIST COLLEGE, AUCKLAND

It was a wonderful experience for all of us when we gathered at our gymnasium for a surprise visit from our prime minister.

Jacinda Ardern explained that the main purpose of her visit was to thank every member of the school community for being so supportive and resilient throughout this covid-19 pandemic. She expressed her gratitude for the way the school handled the challenge of being one of the identified clusters last year.

One of the inspiring parts of her speech was the sharing of her own experiences as a teenager which led her to become a politician. She encouraged all students to say “yes” to whatever opportunities life offers them daily and not to be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them.

Richa, one of the deputy head girls, thanked Jacinda on behalf of the School. She said: “Here at Marist College, we strive to be like Mary, the Mother of God by saying “yes” to whatever Jesus wants us to do.”

One of the gifts presented to our prime minister was a beautiful image of Mary and her Son painted by a current student.
