A fitting tribute for a job well done

This week at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, a moving presentation was made to those who have worked on the front-line during the pandemic. Each received a double-sided coin, a letter from the Mission Office on behalf of the Mercy Sisters and a letter from the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, acknowledging the great dedication and work by the staff during the first phase of the pandemic. He wrote:

Your commitment, empathy and generosity has provided a shining light throughout a dark and difficult time for our nation. As President of Ireland I thank you for that, and for your continued spirit of solidarity as we journey towards a better future.

Sister Mary C. Duffy, who is responsible for one of the hospital wards, reflects:
What a beautiful and kind gesture..., while I am the recipient of these beautiful gifts, I thought of all the Marist Sisters, particularly those who are Nurses who would be in the 'thick' of it, if age permitted.
We are now in the second wave. The numbers being admitted to hospital are increasing. We had an outbreak on my Ward and as a result six patients transferred off with one now in the Intensive Care Unit. All staff needed to be checked for thecoronavirus and thank God we are all negative and symptom-free so far.
Please keep me and my staff in your prayer.

We will pray that Mary, the mother of Jesus, keeps you all safe.
