Marists in Partnership for the sake of our Common Home
The Marist Sisters' Reforestation Project in Mataniwai, the Yasawas, continues - in spite of Cyclone Harold earlier this year. Sr Lora, the manager of the project, has written explaining that the camp and nursery had to be rebuilt; and 54 sandalwood trees had to be replaced with dakua, a stronger species of wood.
COVID-19 also poses a challenge but one positive outcome is that people have had more time and are showing more interest and commitment in the project.
Lora is delighted that three major goals are almost complete:
- relocating and building a new nursery for the plants
- building a base for a 10,200 litre water tank and to transport the tank and materials for construction up to the water source - (the clearing of land entailed seemed to Lora an impossible task - but it is done!)
- more clearing, and the continuation of the planting of seedlings.
Lora writes:
I feel we have achieved a good bit in our work since the beginning of the year. This of course is made possible with the financial contribution of the Marist Mission Centre Australia (MMC), and the support of the Sisters and the commitment of our people.
We thank our God for Partnership and pray God's blessing upon all who support this project!
