Deceased Sisters

Rita Daigle - Canada
18/10/1930 - 13/04/2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Sr Rita Daigle, Marist, on April 13th, 2021 at the age of 90. Born on October 18th, 1930, in St Léonard-Parent, she was the daughter of deceased Alfred Daigle and Antoinette Michaud.

Sr Rita entered the Congregation of the Marist Sisters in September 1950 in St Prix near Paris, France and she made Profession in October 1951.

When she returned to Canada, she trained in Education in St Basile and then was involved in teaching in Green River, St Léonard-Parent and Edmundston.

In the sixties, she was called by her Congregation in Anzio, Italy as General Councillor and also studied at Regina Mundi in Rome.

In 1971, she became Leader of the North American Province of the Marist Sisters with headquarters in Mont Bleu, Hull, QC.

Six years later, she returned to Madawaska County where she generously ministered in St Anne’s and Parent’s communities while serving as Provincial Bursar of her Congregation.

In 1991, she joined the Team of the Chavoin Residence at the St Augustine Seminary in Cap-Rouge, QC, at the service of Christian education.

Her dream of foreign missions became a reality in 1994. She experienced international community in Mexico until 1999, serving the poor and the needy with other Marists.

In 2000, her missionary zeal was attracted to the Hochelaga sector of Montreal in link with La Maison du Réseau (Marist Project). She spent 8 happy years of generous service, sharing her energy and talent, working with Social Services in the area.

Called again by the Congregation, she returned to St Anne as Director of the Seniors’ Residence of St Joseph where she prepared the way for the sale of the property. (Sold in 2011)

Sr Rita chose to remain as resident at the newly named “Foyer St Anne”, continuing her lifetime mission of sharing her life “hidden and unknown” and “in Mary’s way”, ever faithful to her Marist vocation. Surely, as she rests in peace and fullness of life, she remains closely associated to you - Anne, Luc, Chantal, Réjean - in your tender and professional care of the elderly in Foyer St Anne.

Many members and friends of the Marist Family, having known Sr Rita have expressed signs and words of deep admiration for our sister along their journey with her. We have greatly appreciated your kind testimonies. As with the Risen Lord, we know that she is still near, a flame of hope in our hearts! For your sympathy and friendship at this time of grief, a heartfelt thank you!

Gratefully yours,

Huguette Daigle sm
